We travelled to Cherry Springs the last week of June and barring some unfortunate timing with the moon phase, it was spectacular from an astrophotography standpoint.

If you ever wonder what you are NOT seeing in your light polluted city skies… behold the Milky Way.

Cherry Springs is a Class 2 dark sky area and is almost completely dark. Completely dark would be a Class 1.

You can sit in a chair outside and watch meteorite trails, satellites gliding through the night sky… and you can barely see anything right next to you.

Glorious is one word for it.

These Milky Way pictures were single images taken with a common DSLR camera and then slightly processed with Photoshop.

Absolutely. Amazing.
